Russia expels diplomats from EU over Navalny protests
Russia expelled diplomats from Germany, Poland and Sweden over the fact that they attended the anti-government protests prompted by the sentencing of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, EUobserver reported on Friday citing sources from Brussels.
The report comes after European Union Foreign Affairs chief Josep Borrell stated that the relations between the bloc and Russia have reached their "low point." Meanwhile, United States President Joe Biden insisted the Russian government jailed Navalny for "exposing corruption," urging his immediate release.
Navalny has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison due to violating the terms of his probation, but his lawyers announced an appeal will follow.
