The Danish Ministry of Energy confirmed on Monday that Germany has been officially connected to the wind power hub in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea, which is intended to ensure large amounts of green power for the two countries, as well as the rest of Europe while minimizing reliance on Russian fossil fuels.

The €9 billion-worth planned power line will generate enough energy to supply 4.1 million households by 2030, connecting Germany through a 470-kilometer long power cable to the Energio Bornholm plant in Denmark. Both parties will contribute to the infrastructure costs, in return for the supply of green energy.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock signed the agreement with her Danish counterpart Jeppe Kofod to boost investment in hydro and wind power noting that renewable energy and hydrogen power should become "central anchors for a more climate-neutral and sovereign Europe."
