France stops COVID-19 hydroxychloroquine use
France has taken back its approval for hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19, a government decree issued on Wednesday showed.
The move came after the French National Council for Public Health warned against the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat the coronavirus and regulators suspended clinical trials. The drug was previously taken by United States President Donald Trump as a preventive measure.
A study published last week in the British medical journal Lancet showed hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine increase the risk of heart disease and death in COVID-19 patients and the World Health Organization stated COVID-19 hydroxychloroquine trials should be paused.
